Kamiya made this claim on Twitter, and even asked Capcom if it liked the idea. While this is likely just Kamiya teasing fans, it could be an indication that a remake of Devil May Cry is already in the works in some capacity.

After all, Kamiya teased last month that he was visiting Capcom, and we know that there have been talks about a possible collaboration between the Devil May Cry publisher and Platinum Games in the past. Plus, there has been plenty of evidence that a brand new Devil May Cry game is in the works, and it’s certainly possible that instead of Devil May Cry 5, it is a full-scale remake of the first game.

Of course, that’s just speculation at this time. Capcom has yet to announce a new Devil May Cry game in an official capacity, and while there is evidence to suggest that a new game in the series is in the works, we don’t have any definitive proof. Furthermore, Kamiya is currently busy with the development of Bayonetta 3 for the Nintendo Switch, and may not have enough time to work on a new project right now.

While it may be unlikely that Hideki Kamiya will work on a Devil May Cry remake for Capcom, fans should still be able to look forward to news on the franchise sooner rather than later. We know that Hideaki Itsuno, director of multiple Devil May Cry games, is nearing the end of development on his latest project, which is rumored to be Devil May Cry 5. Itsuno’s new project was originally slated for a reveal in late 2017, so fans should find out if it is Devil May Cry 5 or something else entirely at E3 2018 or earlier.

Devil May Cry is available now for PS2.
