Not long after the conference, fans now have a look at the box art for Devil May Cry 5, as well as the platforms the game will be available on. When the game arrives in Spring 2019, fans across most major platforms, including Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, will be able to kill all kinds of demons emerging from hell. As of right now, there is no word as to whether the game will be available on the Switch, sorry Nintendo fans. Fans can also get a look below at box art for the new title below.
For those unfamiliar with the series, it was originally convenience as a Resident Evil sequel before spinning off to make a new franchise. Loosely based on Dante’s Divine Comedy, the series followed Dante on his quest to avenge his mother’s murder by exterminating demons and monsters from the world. Capcom has since released a statement about their plans for the “brand-new entry in the legendary over-the-top action series” know for “its signature blend of high-octane stylized action and otherworldly and original characters”
The new game appears to be a direct sequel to 2008’s Devil May Cry 4 rather than the 2013 reboot DmC; Devil May Cry. It sees the return of longtime series director Hideaki Itsuno who wasn’t involved with DmC, as well as development from Capcom, who handed development over to Ninja Theory on the last installment. The game is set to feature both Dante and his nephew Nero as playable characters, just as Devil May Cry 4 did previously.
It’s good to see such a popular series make a return, particularly featuring its original storyline and across all platforms. The series hasn’t been totally silent over the past few years, with remaster having been released and a Devil May Cry DLC for Monster Hunter World but fans will still be happy to see Capcom bringing the series back in a big way. Hopefully, the original developers can recapture some of the original magic.
Devil May Cry 5 is coming in Spring 2019.
